When: Friday 31 January 2014, 12pm to 1pm

Join us in sending the Awan family’s New Year wishes to immigration minister Chris Alexander.

The Awan family wishes for 2014:

That Khurshid Begum Awan be granted status immediately,
That Mohamad Khalil Awan be allowed to come back to Canada to join his family,
That the family finally be reunited and be able to live in dignity!

As a resolution for 2014, immigration minister Chris Alexander could use his discretionary power to grant Mme. Khurshid Begum Awan status in Canada.

Let’s send him a clear reminder on January 31st.

Khurshid Begum Awan has been living in sanctuary in a Montreal church since August 2013. She is a refused refugee claimant from Pakistan who made the courageous decision not to present herself for deportation. For her, returning to Pakistan means not having access to the medical services that she needs, facing targeted violence, and separation from her daughter and grandson who are living in Montreal.

Until Minister Chris Alexander regularizes her status, Mme. Awan is unable to access sufficient medical care here in Montreal, she is living under tremendous stress and fear, and her life, and the lives of her daughter and grandson, are forced to be put on hold.

Come out to support her and her family, and join us in demanding justice now!

There will be hot chocolate.

Wishing you all a New Year filled with solidarity and justice,
The Awan Family Support Committee
